The Flanders Goose (Vlaamse Gans) a rustic breed of domestic goose native to Flanders, was once used to tend the grass in orchards, including at Imdenhof, a small castle in the village of Imde in Flemish Brabant.

Poultry merchants entrusted goslings to goose keepers who received one franc per head to raise the geese, and the right to pluck quills four times.
The Goose Keeper of Imdenhof lived in the Ganzenhof, or Goose House, and looked after Imdenhof's pear and apple orchards.
